Laser Vision Correction for Reading
Accommodation (the eyes ability to change focus) naturally declines with age; resulting in the need for reading glasses for most patients beyond the age of 50. This unfortunate consequence of ageing is labelled presbyopia.
Laser Blended Vision Treatment
Blended Vision and PresbyMAX are used in our Laser Vision Correction for reading treatment, and are safe and established methods of remedying presbyopia by correcting both distance and near vision simultaneously.
What is blended vision laser eye surgery?
Vision Correction for reading is frequently requested at our clinics in Guildford, London, Manchester, Portsmouth, Sheffield, Winchester and Woking.
Both our blended vision treatments work on the principle that we majoritively function with a dominant and non-dominant eye. Clinical studies estimate that 67% of people are naturally right eye dominant; however your LaserVision Optometrist will identify which is the dominant eye at an initial consultation. Blended vision can be delivered through laser eye surgery and refractive lens exchange (RLE).
Your doctor will adjust your dominant eye (if needed) to see objects in the distance and your non-dominant eye to see objects that are near to you. Your brain is able to utilise the images formed by each eye to give clear distance and near vision at the same time. Naturally, this can require some adaptation which is referred to as neurological adaptation.
PresbyMAX is a high-precision form of laser eye surgery which is also used for the treatment of presbyopia.
This treatment is only available on our new-generation Schwind Amaris 1050RS laser. PresbyMAX gently reshapes the profile of your cornea to result in distance-biassed vision in your dominant eye and near-biassed vision in your non-dominant eye. It differs from blended vision by leaving one or both eyes with multifocality meaning a greater range of focus. The correction is tailored to the individual with consideration of your occupation, lifestyle and activity.
PresbyMAX treatment can be divided into three forms:
1.PresbyMAX monocular: For especially good distance vision
2. PresbyMAX hybrid: For fast recovery and good vision at all distances
3. PresbyMax µ-Monovision: For especially good near vision
With the ability to treat all types of spectacle prescriptions; PresbyMAX optimises your depth of focus and minimises contrast loss to leave you glasses free

How are blended vision treatmnets performed?
- 1.Local anaesthetic eye drops are applied to both eyes
- 2.The femtosecond laser is used to create a thin flap on the surface of the cornea
- 3.The flap is gently lifted
- 4.The Schwind Amaris 1050RS is then used to reshape the cornea. An average 3 diopter treatment needs less than 6 seconds of laser application
- 5.The flap is gently replaced and aligned back into its original position
- 6.The flap will heal naturally and no stitches are required
