Sulcoflex DUET Lens Exchange
Introduced to the UK by LaserVision, this new Trifocal Multifocal Lens Technology ensures the safety of complete lifelong reversibility to a monofocal lens should the health of the eye change.
The DUET procedure involves the simultaneous or sequential implantation of a primary capsular bag IOL and a supplementary Trifocal sulcus IOL. This is performed as a planned DUET procedure during the initial surgery.
What is Sulcoflex DUET Lens Exchange?
Achieving perfect visual results for our patients is paramount.
Even with the best patient selection and most accurate work, results can change. As a living tissue, the health of the eye can deteriorate as we grow older. As no one can predict the future, having the life-long ability to reverse the multifocal lens technology should it become unsuitable brings unparalleled safety to lens exchange surgery.
This is achieved through the DUET system of two premium optic lenses in one. It offers patients who have undergone traditional surgery with an older lens technology the option to upgrade their lens to the latest technology for spectacle independence.
The Sulcoflex DUET Lens Exchange Technique adds little time to the overall surgical time, and yet offers an elegant adjustable solution
The DUET procedure is centred on an established technique called piggyback lenses. Patients undergo routine surgery but at the end a second lens with unique trifocal technology is implanted in a space just in front of the new permanent lens.
The DUET lens has been specifically designed for sulcus implantation. The special design of the lens optics and haptics underlies this unique concept.
Any patient deemed suitable for a traditional lens exchange procedure should be suitable for this latest technique. However, there are several groups of patients who may be unsuitable for a traditional capsular bag multifocal lens. Through the option of reversibility, the Sulcoflex Duet Lens Exchange procedure may offer a solution for these patients.

How is it performed?
- 1.Local anaesthetic eye drops are applied to both eyes
- 2.The area around your eyes will be washed and cleansed, and a sterile drape will be applied
- 3.An instrument is gently positioned to hold your eyelids open
- 4.The natural lens is gently removed by the same techniques used in RLE surgery
- 5.A primary capsular bag IOL and a supplementary Trifocal sulcus IOL are either simultaneously or sequentially implanted
- 6.No stitches are required
